Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of these terms

Welcome to OC AI Forward (the “Site”), operated by the Orange County Department of Education (“OCDE,” “we,” “us”). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

2. About the Site

The Site supports the OC AI Forward professional learning network for educators. It provides session materials, event registration, resources, and tools related to the responsible use of artificial intelligence in education. The Site is offered as a public service and is intended for educators, administrators, and other adults working in or with schools.

3. Accounts and sign-in

Some features require you to sign in, for example with a Google account. You agree to provide accurate information, to keep your sign-in credentials secure, and to notify us promptly if you believe your account has been used without authorization. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. We may suspend or remove accounts that violate these terms.

4. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not interfere with others' use. You must not:

• Submit or upload content that is unlawful, harassing, defamatory, discriminatory, or that infringes another person's rights
• Submit student personally identifiable information except where a form specifically requests it and you are authorized to share it
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, other users' accounts, or OCDE systems, or probe or test the Site's security without written permission
• Use automated tools to scrape, harvest, or bulk-download content or user information
• Introduce viruses, malware, or other harmful code
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any school, district, or organization
• Use the Site to send unsolicited commercial messages

5. Content you submit

You keep ownership of anything you submit to the Site, such as form responses, comments, feedback, or shared resources (“User Content”). By submitting User Content, you give OCDE a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, adapt, and display it for the purpose of operating the Site and running the OC AI Forward program, including sharing de-identified feedback and examples with network participants. You represent that you have the rights needed to submit your User Content and that it does not violate these terms.

We may, but are not required to, review, edit, or remove User Content at our discretion.

6. Our content and licensing

Unless otherwise noted, the materials on the Site — including session decks, facilitator guides, playbooks, graphics, and the OC AI Forward name and logo — are owned by OCDE or used with permission. Session and resource materials are made available to educators for non-commercial educational use within their schools and districts, with attribution to OC AI Forward / OCDE. Any other use, including commercial redistribution or presenting materials as your own, requires our written permission. The OC AI Forward name and logo may not be used without permission.

7. AI tools and generated content

Some Site features and resources may use or reference artificial intelligence tools. AI-generated output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or biased. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying any AI output before relying on it, and for following your district's policies on AI use. Do not enter confidential, student, or personnel information into any AI tool on or linked from the Site unless your district has approved that tool for that purpose. Nothing on the Site is a substitute for professional, legal, or district policy guidance. The Site itself does not send what you enter to any AI provider.

8. Third-party links and services

The Site links to and embeds content from third parties (for example, Google services, video platforms, and district websites) and relies on third-party providers such as Google Firebase. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party sites or services, their content, or their privacy practices. Your use of them is governed by their own terms.

9. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect personal information on the Site. OCDE is a public agency, and information submitted to the Site may be subject to disclosure under the California Public Records Act.

10. Disclaimers

The Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, OCDE disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that content will be current or complete. Resources on the Site reflect the views of their authors and do not necessarily represent official OCDE policy.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, OCDE, its Board, officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Site. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, and nothing waives any immunity, defense, or limitation available to OCDE as a public entity under California law, including the Government Claims Act.

12. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site, or any part of it, at any time and for any reason, including violation of these terms. You may stop using the Site and request deletion of your account at any time. Sections 5, 6, 10, 11, and 14 survive termination.

13. Changes to the Site or these terms

We may change, suspend, or discontinue the Site or any feature at any time. We may also update these terms; when we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, post a notice on the Site. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute relating to the Site will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Orange County, California, subject to the claim-presentation requirements that apply to public entities under California law.
